Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation HEDC, neighborhood volunteers, Milwaukee Job Corp, Milwaukee Urban Gardens, Groundworks, Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District, Stano Landscaping, Greater Milwaukee Foundation, Prism Technical Institute and the City of Milwaukee came together to raise funds, design and build a public community garden on N. 60th & Green Tree Road. Formerly known as the old Bacher Farm, a portion of this site will be returned to its original use for growing vegetables.
Jessica Noth from HEDC led the project and mobilized volunteers, while Bill Sama and Matt Stano from Stano Landscaping provided a garden design to include a relaxation garden, raised bed vegetable gardens and a rain garden for storm water management. MMSD also donated rain garden plants for the community garden and installed rain barrels for Havenwoods residents.
On Saturday, July 27th, the community came out to construct the raised garden beds, prepare the rain garden beds, and moved tons of dirt one wheelbarrow at a time! We owe a huge thank you to the Milwaukee Job Corp students and residents that came out and worked so hard to make this community garden a reality.
If you are interested in using a raised garden bed please contact Jessica Noth at email@example.com or at 414-431-2271.
