HEDC and BID 31 Initiatives

Havenwoods Economic Development Corporation uses a variety of strategies to promote the revitalization of Havenwoods.  The strategies include economic development, community development, neighborhood management,  and improving public infrastructure.

Economic Development:

Economic opportunity and family sustaining employment is crucial to the health of the Havenwoods community.    With over 200 businesses calling Havenwoods home, this community is an economic driver for the City of Milwaukee.  HEDC works to sustain that economy by providing business assistance.   HEDC hosts business round tables, business networking events, assists businesses with city services, and helps to connect people with jobs in Havenwoods.

Community Development:

Havenwoods has been designated a “Healthy Neighborhood” by the Greater Milwaukee Foundation.  This community development tool addresses four areas for revitalization.  Influence real estate, neighborhood promotion, resident engagement and beautification.  Jessica Noth (jnoth@havenwoods.org)  is the lead staff for the Healthy Neighborhood program.

Neighborhood Management:

HEDC has a system of block watch clubs,  resident networks and partnerships with the City of Milwaukee to maintain the quality of life and safety that Havenwoods residents enjoy.  HEDC provides residents with the tools and technical assistance to address challenges on your block.  Liz Hammer (ehammer@havenwoods.org) is the lead staff for Neighborhood Management.

Choice Neighborhood:

HEDC has embarked on an exciting new supporting partnership with the City of Milwaukee’s Housing Authority to implement the recent Housing and Urban Development’s Choice Neighborhood initiative in the neighborhoods surrounding Westlawn Gardens.  Press release for the designation

Havenwoods Business Improvement District:

The Havenwoods Business Improvement District invests in improving public spaces such as refurbishing rusted rail road bridges, boulevard landscaping, neighborhood identity signs, and litter clean up.   The BID also provides business assistance grants for site improvements such as facades, signs, and landscaping.  For  more information about these programs email: sharling@havenwoods.org.
